Day 34 we rode from one lodge to another lodge on another lake. The new lodge called Northern Rockies Lodge is a nice lodge in a beautiful setting. It sits on Muncho Lake in the Muncho Lake Provincial Park. This lodge has a hotel, cabins, and RV spaces right on the lake. It is a place I would consider for a couple of day stay for photography. I took a few shots, and was hoping to maybe get some northern lights. The problem with that is it doesn't get dark enough this time of years to see the lights. I spoke to a local who said 0200 is about the darkest time and maybe you can get them. So no northern lights for me here anyway. Maybe in Jasper or Banff.
The road conditions were much better once you are 60 miles out of Whitehorse and stayed reasonably good all the way to the lodge. We saw a black bear, three actually, but one was a fresh road kill still in the road. We also saw a buffalo doing what buffalo do, taking in grass at one end and expelling processed grass out the other.
Black bear on side of road. What I noticed with this bear and the grizzly from yesterday was they seemed totally unaware we were approaching them and were startled when they noticed. No wonder they get spooked and react they way they do. They are not people aware.
